Four criteria for the best mathematical model in biomedical field could be:

  1. to be physiologically based,
  2. having parameters that can be estimated with a reasonable precision,
  3. parameters with values that are reasonable and have physiological interpretation,
  4. best able to simulate the dynamics of the system with smallest number of identifiable parameters.

It concluded that few studies provided evidence for computerised applications improving clinical outcomes. Given the evidence presented, the authors’ conservative conclusions are likely to be reliable.
